The 2nd night in Boston on the 1976 Opera Tour is one of Queen's most famous bootlegs, and for good reasons. This is one of the greatest bootleg recordings of any band, ever. This is easily the best Queen audience recording in existence, and it is only one of five recordings from the American leg of the Opera Tour, so it's quite a precious recording. Not only is the recording in outstanding quality, but the performance is incredible. Being only the 3rd show on the tour, Freddie is in great shape, and the band are fresh off the 1975 leg (and the famous Hammersmith concert on Christmas Eve). All of this adds up for a great performance in one of Queen's most loyal cities.

Apart from Hammersmith 1975, this show in Houston is probably the most famous Queen concert of the 70s. This concert, along with several other shows during December of 1977, were filmed. So far this gig is the only show that's had it's footage leaked and/or released. Bob Harris and his crew not only shot footage of this show, but also shot footage of Atlanta 12/8/1977, Fort Worth 12/10/1977, and Las Vegas 12/15/1977, none of which has been publicly seen to date.
Even with the set cut back (It's Late, Spread Your Wings, and The Prophet's Song were not performed tonight likely due to limited film for the show), the songs they did perform rank as some of their best ever and showcase Queen at their very best. Freddie sounds great tonight, as he always did on this tour, and besides Brian's awkward string break during Liar, the band come through very strong all night.
The audio from this gig comes from a soundboard source. The version on this upload is a remaster by DJGreg. The quality is amazing and competes with official releases. The original version was, like all soundboards, dry and lacked the atmosphere of a live gig, but DJGreg put on some reverb, and fattened up the sound with an EQ adjustment to enhance the atmosphere to a level that the best audience recordings can have.
